“Tribulation Force” news

January 3rd, 2003

“Left Behind II: Tribulation Force,” the sequel to the surprise sleeper hit, Left Behind: The Movie (2000) that sold over 3 million videos, is holding its own with major Hollywood releases, proving that it too is a force to be reckoned with. The first hint of the sequel’s success came the weekend before its October 29, 2002 release date when it pushed Sony Pictures’ Spider-Man out of the top spot to become the nation’s #1 best selling video on…

The success of this sequel may surprise many but not Cloud Ten Pictures’ co-CEO Peter Lalonde who helmed the film’s predecessor “Left Behind: The Movie” and saw it become the #1 selling video in America in its first week of release in November 2000. “Innovation in the marketing, publicity and distribution of these films makes it possible to compete with much larger players,” says Lalonde. In addition to excellent grassroots marketing within the Christian community, the film launched day and date with four inspired soundtracks featuring such top Christian and mainstream artists as: Entertainment Tonight’s former host John Tesh, P.O.D., Butterfly Kisses’ Bob Carlisle and Rebecca St. James. A 9-city music tour featuring several soundtrack artists kicked off on October 21, 2002 and ended November 12 with the film’s lead, Kirk Cameron hosting the event in 5 of the 9 cities.

There is still more planned for the “Left Behind” film franchise. In a reversed strategy, “Left Behind II: Tribulation Force” will be launching a combined church and theatrical release that will commence on December 31, 2002, two months after its DVD/video release. For a nominal fee, churches have the opportunity to screen the film and its predecessor, “Left Behind: The Movie,” in their own facilities or to sponsor a theater in their area. Each church that signs on receives a comprehensive outreach package that includes ad slicks, an outreach guidebook, posters, a Powerpoint slide presentation, a certificate of license, VHS and DVD copies of the film as well as other materials.
