Gener8Xion Entertainment, Inc., announced today that the theatrical release of its biblical feature film “One Night with the King” (the film) has grossed over $4 million in its debut weekend, landing the film in the top 10 bracket of highest grossing films in the country. In addition, the company is announcing that the film placed fourth amongst this weekends nationally released films for the coveted per-screen average number. This average is a good indicator of overall audience enthusiasm for a film and subsequent word-of-mouth marketing that occurs among movie going audiences.
Commenting on the announcement, Matthew Crouch, chairman and CEO of Gener8Xion Entertainment, Inc. said, This is truly a historical time for Gener8Xion Entertainment and a time to celebrate.
The Hollywood Reporter wrote, Arguably, the most surprising film performance of the weekend came from indie-company Gener8Xion Entertainment, which opened One Night With the King on 909 screens nationwide. The biblical story of Queen Esther earned a remarkable $4.1 million for a ninth-place showing and a solid per-theater average of $4,518.
Variety commented, In other new rollouts, the Gener8Xion labels indie religious pic One Night With the King made a strong bow in just 909 markets. Pic landed $4.3 million to put it solidly in the top 10, just edging out Paramounts heathen holdover Jackass: Number Two.
Based on the best-selling novel Hadassah: One Night With The King by Tommy Tenney and Mark Andrew Olsen, this dramatic big-screen adaptation chronicles a young womans rise from peasant to princess, her courageous role in the redemption of her people from destruction and death, and her winning of the love of the most powerful man in the kingdomby seeking his heart rather than the riches of his kingdom.
Paul Crouch, Jr., Trinity Broadcasting Networks Vice President of Administration, said that following its theatrical run, One Night With The King will make its television debut on TBN worldwide on March 14th 2007, the date which coincides with the Jewish holiday of Purim. Purim is one of the most joyous holidays on the Jewish calendar, said Crouch. It is based on the book of Esther and commemorates that historical time when the Jewish people living in Persia were saved from extermination. One Night With The King brings to life the story of Esthers courage and faith on behalf of Gods people.
