Cloud Ten Pictures’ CEO, Peter Lalonde, announced on October 21st that the world’s largest and most successful faith-based film studio is launching its first television series. Based on the New York Times’ best-selling book LEFT BEHIND, by Tim LaHaye and Jerry B. Jenkins, the program will be broadcast in Canada in early 2003. “We only control limited television rights,” Lalonde pointed out, “but the series will be available on video and DVD in both the United States and Canada.” The storyline will follow the inside workings of Nicolae Carpathia’s global command center as well as the Tribulation Force’s efforts to undermine and expose the man they believe to be the biblical antichrist. “The beauty of this format is that it allows us to go into much more detail than our two-hour films based on the same book series,” said Cloud Ten production head André van Heerden, who will also serve as the series’ showrunner. “The series will parallel and compliment LEFT BEHIND, but it will have the time to go into the kind of detail that the book does.”
Cloud Ten intends to produce at least 13 episodes for the first season. Negotiations with several broadcasters are underway. Financing is in place and cameras are set to roll early in the new year with the first episodes due in the spring. “The authors will be kept in the loop on the series as much as they wish to be, and we will certainly run scripts and concepts by them,” said Lalonde. “In the end, of course, they will decide what amount of creative input they would like to have.” A site dedicated to the TV series will go online in the coming weeks.
